AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team dropped a 2-0 pitcher's duel, before falling 11-2 to the Carson-Newman Eagles on Tuesday in non-conference action at Jaguar Field.

The Jaguars moved to 1-9 overall, while Carson-Newman moved to 11-0 on the season.

Augusta heads to Queens in Charlotte, N.C. on Thursday, Feb. 28 for a non-conference doubleheader at 2:00 p.m.

The first meeting was a pitching battle that went scoreless into the sixth inning. The Eagles got runners on in the first and second inning, but Augusta junior pitcher Morgan Hunter got out of each with a strikeout to keep the game scoreless. Hunter (1-4) logged her fifth start of the year for Augusta and struck out seven, while holding Carson-Newman to one earned run on eight hits. AU freshman Lauren Prescott, junior Meredith McLendon, and sophomore Regan Norfleet each had a hit in the loss, while C-N totaled eight.

C-N carded a first-inning run for a quick lead in game two, but the Jaguars responded in the bottom of the third when freshman CiCi Castillo and senior Kelsea Hunter hit back-to-back RBI singles for a 2-1 score. The lead changed again when the Eagles hit a two-run home run to straight center field in the fourth inning. C-N scored eight runs in the fourth inning and went on to win 11-2

AU freshman Katy Caldwell (0-2) was the starting pitcher and went 3.1 innings to strike out four and allow four hits on six runs. Augusta went to Alyssa Johnson briefly in the fourth, before junior Courtney Browne pitched in relief.

Hunter and Castillo each went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Jags and freshman Madelyn Libby was 1-for-2 with a run.
