Augusta Loses Early Lead In 64-49 Defeat To Clayton State

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team hosted its third Peach Belt Conference game in six days on Monday night and fell 64-49 to the Clayton State Lakers in Christenberry Fieldhouse.



The PBC game moved Augusta to 4-18 overall and 2-16 in the league, while Clayton State is now 13-11 and 10-8.

  • 55.0 free-throw percentage (11-for-20)

Ashleigh Outler had 16 points for the Jaguars to lead the scoring, while senior Jahmia Bradley carded 13 points. Junior Brianna Middleton grabbed 14 rebounds overall and had 10 on the offensive side. Augusta outrebounded the Lakers 38-34, but the Clayton State bench scored 23 points and they had 30 in the paint. Each team matched four fast-break points, but after leading early, the Jaguars couldn't overcome CSU.


Senior Joshlyn Belcher hit a three pointer and Outler connected on back-to-back-to-back treys to open the offense for Augusta. AU led 18-14 after the first period, but Clayton State went on a 5-0 run to start the second. The Jags got another three pointer when Bradley buried one in the corner and slowed down the Laker offense.The Lakers rolled on and outscored AU 21-8 in the second period and after they took the lead with 5:20 on the clock before halftime, they never trailed again.


Augusta heads to Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C., on Wednesday, Feb. 14 for a 5:30 p.m. PBC tipoff against the Patriots.
