COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, hosted by Ohio State University, kicked off with the opening 36 holes of play on Saturday and the Augusta Jaguars sit in eighth place out of 12 teams at The Ohio State University Golf Club.
The Jags shot 37-over par for the day, but shaved three strokes in their second round and are three shots off seventh place. No. 14 Kent State leads the field one-under par (575) on the par 72, 6,319 yard course. Indiana climbed three spots in round two and is second 10 over, No. 43 Ohio State is third (+15) on their home course, No. 42 Michigan State fourth (+16), and Toledo fifth (+20) for the top five.
The tournament format has six players teeing off for each team.
Ranked No. 30 in the nation in the most recent Golfstat.com rankings, the Jaguars were led by junior Josefine Nyqvist who is in a tie for 20th after shooting 76 (+4) and 74 (+2) in her first two rounds. Nyqvist is six shots over par to lead Augusta.
After shooting 77 (+5) to open her tournament, junior Eunice Yi dropped two strokes in round two and is in a tie for 24th overall eight over.
Junior Teresa Caballer Hernani turned in 79, 77 and is tied for 37th after 36 holes of play and junior Jessica Haigwood is 13-over par tied for 41st. Freshman Cecilia Diez-Moliner is in 49th (+16) and sophomore Sonya Knebel sits in 63rd (+20) to round out the Jags' six.
Augusta continues play at the Lady Buckeye on Sunday, April 17 for the third and final round.
