WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetown jumped out to a 43-14 halftime lead Saturday afternoon and posted a 79-41 non-conference victory over Augusta State in the season opener for both teams in McDonough Arena.
The contest marked the official debut for the Lady Jaguars under head coach Nate Teymer, who took over the program on April 1.
ASU senior shooting guard Blaire Egardo nailed six 3-pointers and matched her career high with 20 points and seven rebounds. Senior point guard Jarquella Woods handed out four assists and sophomore reserve forward Tracy Aifuwa was credited with three steals.
The Lady Hoyas, ranked No. 13 in the ESPN/USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll, had four players reach double figures. Sugar Rodgers led GU with 13 points, four assists and six steals. Adria Crawford and Alexa Roche added 11 points each and Rubylee Wright chipped in 10 points.
ASU shot just 33 percent for the game and only 22 percent in the first half. The Lady Jags were able to connect on eight 3-pointers and shot 38 percent from beyond the arch.
Despite making just two 3-pointers, Georgetown shot 48 percent overall and owned the edge in rebounding, 42-29. The Lady Hoyas forced 31 turnovers and combined for 19 steals.
The hosts outscored the Lady Jags 50-8 in the paint and led by as many as 42 with 5:38 remaining.
ASU makes its home debut on Saturday, Nov. 20 against Morris College at 8:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
