AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State shot 63 percent in the second half and made first-year head coach Nate Teymer's home debut a successful one in an 80-59 non-conference victory over Morris Saturday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Lady Jaguars evened their record at 1-1 on the season while the Lady Hornets dropped to 1-7. The victory snapped a 24-game losing streak dating back to last season for the Lady Jags, who won at home for the first time since Jan. 24, 2009 and ended an 18-game home losing streak.
Freshman guard Jemimah Ashby booked a team-high 18 points off the bench. Senior forward Briyana Evans posted 15 points and five steals and sophomore forward Waneta Carlisle managed 12 points and a team-best eight rebounds.
The Lady Jags racked up 21 steals off of 37 Morris turnovers. The Lady Hornets (1-7) were paced by Shaniqua Campbell, who tallied 19 points, 13 rebounds and three steals.
ASU shot 47 percent for the game and outscored Morris 46-33 in the second half.
The Lady Jags return to action on Saturday, Nov. 27 when they host Converse at 3:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
