OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill.
-- Augusta State opened its 2010-11 season with a
second-place finish Sunday in the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini
Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Jaguars, the No. 2-ranked team in the nation, registered a
6-over 286 for the second straight day on the Olympia Fields North
Course. ASU finished in a tie with top-ranked Oklahoma State at
12-over 852, seven shots back of No. 10 Florida.
Sparked by a late eagle, junior Patrick Reed shot a
3-under 67 and tallied the Jags' best finish with a tie for third
at 1-under 209 (72-70-67). Senior Carter Newman
turned in a 1-under 69 and moved up into a tie for 11th at 3-over
213 (70-74-69).
Fellow seniors Mitch Krywulycz
(68-71-75) and Henrik
Norlander (70-71-75) posted a pair of 75's and tied for 16th
and 24th, respectively, while junior Taylor Floyd
(80-74-78) finished 74th.
Florida posted a 5-over 285 to best ASU and OSU for the best round
of the day. Alabama and Texas rounded out the top five in a field
that featured 11 teams in the top 20. The Cowboy's Peter Uihlein
claimed medalist honors with an even-par 70, good for a 3-shot
victory over Florida's Bank Vongvanij.

The Jags return to action next weekend in the PING/Golfweek
Preview. The first round is slated for Sunday, Sept. 26 and wraps
up Tuesday at Karsten Creek Golf Club, the home course of Oklahoma
