MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- Augusta State senior guard Blaire Egardo connected on a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left Saturday afternoon to secure a 61-58 Peach Belt Conference victory over Montevallo in BankTrust Arena.
The victory lifted the Lady Jaguars to 8-15 overall and 2-13 in the PBC. UM dropped to 8-14 and 4-9, respectively.
ASU sophomore forward Waneta Carlisle booked a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Egardo netted 13 points, five rebounds and five steals and freshman forward Jac' Weathers turned in a career-best 10 points off the bench.
Carrie Parrott tallied a double-double for the Falcons (14 points and 13 boards) and Jessica Collins added 11.
Montevallo led 58-55 after a jumper from Collins with 2:40 left in the game. Carlisle answered with a layup on the Lady Jags' next possession to pull within 58-57. She then got a steal and after four ASU missed shots and offensive rebounds, Carlisle canned a jumper to give the Lady Jags a 59-58 lead with 1:26 left.
Both teams exchanged missed 3-pointers and following a Montevallo timeout, Egardo stole the ball from UM's Tiffany McClure and was fouled. She made both free-throw attempts for the final margin.
The contest featured five ties and seven lead changes. ASU, which shot 40 percent from the field and 78 percent at the charity stripe (14-of-18), led by as many as six points midway through the second half.
