NEWPORT COAST, Calif. -- Augusta State combined for a 16-over 366 Monday during the second round of the Battle At The Beach at Pelican Hill Golf Club's Ocean North Course.
The second-year tournament is a three-day, 54-hole event and features a play-six, count-five format.
With just one sub-par round on the day, the No. 14 Jaguars slipped from second place into sixth, 15 strokes back of leader San Diego. Washington, UCLA, Tennessee and Arizona State are second through fifth. The Jags are just two shots out of fifth place and three out of third.
ASU junior Patrick Reed fired a bogey-free, 4-under 66 and moved into a tie for fourth at 2-under 138 (72-66). Seniors Mitch Krywulycz and Carter Newman, along with freshman Alex Wennstam, managed 4-over 74's. Seniors Henrik Norlander and Olle Bengtsson turned in a 78 and an 81, respectively.
San Diego's Kenneth McCready shot a 3-under 67 for a 36-hole total of 8-under 132 and a three-shot lead over UCLA's Connor Driscoll.
The third and final round gets underway Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m., EST. The Jags will be paired with Arizona State beginning at 12:00 p.m., Eastern.
