AWENDAW, S.C. -- Augusta State registered the only sub-par round of the day Monday in the second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at the par-71, 7,298-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club layout just outside of Charleston.
The No. 6 Jaguars, who began the day just a shot behind leader Wake Forest, overcame a pair of weather delays and miserable playing conditions to turn in a 2-under 282. ASU moved in front by two strokes over LSU and five shots over the Demon Deacons. Auburn and Texas A&M are fourth and fifth, respectively, six and seven strokes off the pace.
ASU senior Mitch Krywulycz fired a team-best, 4-under 67 and vaulted from 32nd into a tie for fourth. Junior Patrick Reed backed up his 1-under 70 in the first round with a 3-under 68 and moved into a tie for second at 4-under 138, just a stroke off the individual lead.
Senior Carter Newman posted a two-over 73 and is tied for 29th, while freshman Alex Wennstam and senior Henrik Norlander managed a pair of 3-over 74's. Wennstam is tied for 18th and Norlander is part of a seven-way tie for 22nd.
Mississippi's Jonathan Randolph notched a 2-under 69 and at 5-under 137, owns a one-shot advantage over Reed and Wake's Lee Bedford. Krywulycz is part of a five-player logjam just two strokes back of Randolph.
The three-day, 54-hole event, which features three top-10 and seven top-20 teams, resumes with the third and final round Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. The Jags will be paired with LSU and Wake Forest. Newman is first off for ASU at 9:40 a.m., followed by Norlander at 9:50, Wennstam at 10:00 and Krywulycz at 10:10, with Reed anchoring the lineup at 10:20.
