AWENDAW, S.C. -- Augusta State posted a 3-over 287 Tuesday in the third and final round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at the par-71, 7,298-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club layout just outside of Charleston.
The sixth-ranked Jaguars, who began the day with a two-shot advantage over LSU, finished in second place, just a single stroke behind the No. 12 Tigers. Auburn and Duke tied for third, five shots back of the Jaguars, while Wake Forest, Texas A&M and North Carolina State all tied for fifth.
With their runnerup effort, the Jags registered their fourth top-two finish of the season and third runnerup showing.
Senior Mitch Krywulycz notched a 1-under 70 and produced ASU's best finish, a tie for third at 4-under 209 (72-67-70). Junior Patrick Reed turned in a two-over 73 and tied for seventh at 2-under 211. Freshman Alex Wennstam registered his best career finish, tying for 17th at 2-over 215 (69-74-72).
Senior Henrik Norlander, coming off his victory in the General Hackler Championship, tied for 24th at 3-over 216 (70-74-72) after a closing 72. Senior Carter Newman managed a final-round 77 and tied for 47th at 9-over 222 (72-73-77).
N.C. State's Mitchell Sutton, the first-round co-leader, shared medalist honors with LSU's Andrew Loupe. Each player turned in a 3-under 68 and finished at 6-under 207. ASU's Krywulycz, Phillip Choi of Florida and Ole Miss' Jonathan Randolph all tied for third.
The Jags are back in action this weekend when they play host to the Insperity Augusta State Invitational, presented by Spark Energy and Mercedes-Benz of Augusta, at Forest Hills Golf Club.
A practice round is slated for a 12:30 p.m., shotgun start on Friday, April 1. The 16-team field, which includes five of the nation's top eight teams, plays 36 holes on Saturday, April 2 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The third and final round tees off Sunday, April 3 at 9:00 a.m., with the final group of leaders hitting the course at 11:06 a.m.
