SALISBURY, NC – The Augusta University women's basketball team wrapped a historic season in the NCAA Southeast Regional Friday afternoon. The No. 7 seed Jaguars fell 61-55 to the No. 2 seed Carson-Newman Eagles. Carson-Newman will advance to play Anderson.

The tightly contested game featured nine lead changes. While AU held a 28-22 advantage in scoring in the paint, Carson-Newman turned 16 offensive rebounds into 17 points.
Augusta came out blazing –
Mone Florence buried a three-pointer just eight seconds into the game. Another triple by
Autumn Phillips gave Augusta an 8-4 lead with 7:04 left to play in the first quarter. A jumper from
Kennedi Manning gave AU an eight-point lead with five minutes left to play in the first period. After working their way back into the game, back-to-back three-pointers from the Eagles on the final possessions of the first quarter gave Carson-Newman an 18-16 lead. Carson-Newman would hold a narrow 30-28 lead heading into halftime.
After a jumper from Phillips evened the score at 32-32 early in the third quarter, back-to-back triples from Florence and Phillips sparked an 8-0 run. Carson-Newman used a 7-0 run of their own to reclaim the lead. Turnover plagued the Jaguars in the final period and the Jags would fall 61-55.
Florence used four shots from beyond the arc to lead Augusta with 16 points. And three steals.
Tomiyah Alford was 7-for-11 from the field for 15 points. Manning was also in double-figures, carding 12 points in her last game as a Jaguar.
Augusta women's basketball closes their best season since 20216 and is just the seventh 20-win season in school history. In just her second season, head coach
Celeste Stewart led the Jags to a second-place finish in the Peach Belt Conference and the program's fifth NCAA Tournament appearance.
