AUGUSTA, GA. - On a night when the Augusta University women suited up just seven players,
Amari Jackson tied her career high with 24 points in a 74-61 setback to Georgia Southwestern. The Jaguars are now 4-2 in the Peach Belt Conference and 10-4 overall. The Hurricanes improve to 4-2 in conference, 8-6 overall.
Augusta came out firing and ran out to a 21-9 lead after the opening quarter. Freshman
Quinasia Abercrombie scored six of the first eight points for AU with Jackson ending the opening quarter with eight points. Abercrombie would finish with 16 points and nine rebounds as she continues to shine for Augusta.
Mone Florence tallied eight points with
Elyse Autrey adding six for the Jaguars.Â
Despite being outscored in the second quarter, AU would still take the lead to the locker room up 32-28. It wasn't until just over a minute to play in the third when Georgia Southwestern would take the lead, one they would not relinquish the rest of the game.
The Jaguars shot 38% while the Hurricanes hit on 46% of their shots.
Augusta University returns to action Wednesday night when they travel to Greenwood, S.C. to take on Lander. They'll wrap up the week with a road game at North Georgia.Â
