AUGUSTA, GA - Augusta University Athletics currently ranks ninth nationally in the NCAA Community Engagement Impact Challenge, a competition that highlights student-athlete service across Divisions I, II, and III.
Since August 1, Augusta student-athletes have contributed more than 1,000 hours of service in the local community — including nearly 700 hours within the last month alone — resulting in an estimated economic impact of over $37,000 during that time. Across the department, teams have supported initiatives such as IRONMAN® 70.3 Augusta, the Tunnel to Towers 5K, and numerous local outreach projects. The men's basketball program leads all teams in total hours served so far, logging over 400 community service hours.
The NCAA Impact Challenge, powered by Helper Helper, runs from September 1 through December 15 and measures both overall student-athlete participation and average service hours. The initiative shines a spotlight on the impact student-athletes make beyond competition, with projects ranging from tutoring youth and assisting at community events to cleaning public spaces and supporting local shelters.
In the Division II standings, Augusta is ninth overall. Augusta continues to climb the rankings with an economic impact of more than $37,000 generated by its student-athletes' volunteer efforts since August.
