Augusta Women Pull Away Late in Win Over Georgia College

Augusta, Ga. - The Augusta women pulled away in the fourth quarter to post a 62-50 win over Georgia College and State University Saturday afternoon at Christenberry Fieldhouse. With the win, the Jaguars improve to 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference play and 6-2 overall The Bobcats fall to 1-4 in conference and 1-8 overall.

Augusta had a balanced scoring attack and were led by Sierra Burns 13 points, Amari Jackson had a season high 12 points while Quinasia Abercrombie tallied nine points.

After a first half in which the Jags led by as many as 10, the Bobcats stormed out of the locker room and took their first lead of the game midway through the third quarter.
 
It was tied at 42 as they started the fourth quarter and Augusta would out score GCSU 20-8 in the final 10 minutes. Sa'Niah Dorsey hit a three pointer to start the fourth and the Jags would never look back. Dorsey netted seven points in the final quarter.

Augusta shot 48% from the field to the Bobcats 45% and dominated in the paint outscoring the Bobcats 32-20. They also tallied 27 points off turnovers as the Bobcats committed 23 of them in the game.



Jackson, who started her first game of the year, also grabbed six rebounds and blocked three shots. Elyse Autrey also had six rebounds in the game. Dorsey and Chloe Ross both scored eight points.

Augusta will next be in action Wednesday night when they travel to the Lumpkin Center to take on Columbus St. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
