MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 48 Augusta University women's tennis team battled in a closely contested match against Georgia College on Thursday but came up just short in a 4-3 loss at the Centennial Center Tennis Courts. The defeat moves Augusta to 7-4 on the season and 0-2 in Peach Belt Conference play.
The Jaguars claimed the doubles point after winning two of the three matchups. Priscilla Landi and Julieta Palma secured a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Camila Taborga and Giovanna Patrocinio earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-2) win at No. 3. Andrea Gonzalez and Juliana Martinez battled at No. 1 but fell 5-7.
In singles action, Augusta picked up two wins. Camila Taborga dominated at No. 5 singles, securing a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Luciana Bejarano fought through a three-set battle at No. 3, winning 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).
Georgia College secured the match with wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6. Gonzalez fell in a tough match at No. 1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-7 (5-7), while Martinez dropped a 5-7, 2-6 decision at No. 2. Landi fell 1-6, 7-5, 2-6 at No. 4, and Patrocinio was edged out in three sets at No. 6, 6-4, 5-7, 4-6.
With the loss, Augusta moves to 7-4 overall and will look to bounce back when they host Auburn University Montgomery on Saturday, March 15, at 1:00 p.m. at the Newman Tennis Center.
