AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 34 Augusta University men's tennis team came up just short in a tightly contested Peach Belt Conference matchup on Thursday, falling 4-3 to Lander University at the Newman Tennis Center. With the loss, Augusta moves to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in PBC play.
The Jaguars secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Alexis Bailhache and Enzo Garutti edged out a 7-6 (7-5) victory at the top spot, while Enzo Sakiyama and Humberto Pinto earned a 7-5 win at No. 3. Lander claimed the No. 2 doubles match 6-1.
In singles, Augusta picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Garutti delivered a strong 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2, and Arthur Valette secured a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3.
Lander took the remaining four singles matches to clinch the match. Bailhache dropped a 2-6, 7-6 (7-0), 3-6 match at No. 1, Pinto fell 1-6, 6-4, 4-6 at No. 6, Sakiyama was defeated 4-6, 5-7 at No. 5, and David Perret came up short 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 at No. 4.
