COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 48 Augusta University women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 28 Georgia College in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Friday at the John W. Walden Tennis Center. With the loss, Augusta moves to 13-7 on the season and now awaits its fate in the upcoming NCAA Tournament selection.
Georgia College claimed the doubles point after winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Julieta Palma and Priscilla Landi fell 3-6 at No. 2, and Camila Taborga and Giovanna Patrocinio were defeated 3-6 at No. 3. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Andrea Gonzalez and Juliana Martinez was left unfinished.
In singles play, Augusta picked up a point at No. 5, where Taborga rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Georgia College secured wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles to clinch the match. Martinez dropped a 2-6, 1-6 match at No. 1, Luciana Bejarano fell 5-7, 3-6 at No. 3, and Landi lost 1-6, 0-6 at No. 4.
The matches at No. 2 and No. 6 singles went unfinished. Gonzalez had split sets at No. 2 and Patrocinio was locked in a close battle at No. 6 when play was halted.
With the regular season officially concluded, Augusta (13-7) now looks ahead to the NCAA Tournament selection announcement to see if their season will continue.
