AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Augusta men's golf team is gearing up to head to Cincinnati, Ohio for the Bearcat Invitational on Sept. 15-16. There will be 36 holes on Monday with the final 18 holes on Tuesday at Coldstream Country Club.
This marks the second tournament of the fall for the Jaguars after coming in a tie for 12th place at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. While it wasn't the finish they were hoping for, coach Steven Paine said they weren't far off from a solid performance.
"We need to just keep doing what we have been doing here in the early part of the year. We're trying to lay a foundation and that's important," Paine said. "Obviously results are important but at the same time we're trying to do things the right way. We finished 12th, but we were nine shots from finishing seventh and that would have been pretty good for us in that event."
Augusta has had success in the Bearcat Invitational and finished seventh last year with
Stefan Jacobs coming in fifth as an individual.
Having familiarity on the course could go a long way in having success once again this year.
"All but one of us have played the golf course so we're excited, we're excited about the opportunity," Paine said.
This year's field includes defending champion Louisville, Kentucky, Ohio State, Iowa St., Maryland, Central Florida and Memphis to name a few.
