Augusta Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Promotes Collaboration and Connection Among Jaguar Teams

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) works behind the scenes at Augusta University to serve as a voice for student-athletes and act as a liaison to monitor and discuss campus, conference, and national issues. Each AU sport has a representative who meets regularly to address needs and plan events that benefit the university and the community.

Cross country runner Noah Sheppard will serve as this year's SAAC president. One of his main goals is to build unity across all sports programs.

"I believe that for SAAC this year we want to focus on cohesion," Sheppard said. "There are a lot of different sports, a lot of different people from all over, and we want to take the time to pull the department together and work on goals as a team."

A major initiative of SAAC nationwide is its partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Augusta's SAAC has raised thousands of dollars over the years for the organization and continues to lead fundraising efforts for causes that impact the community.

"In our fundraising events, we'd like to sponsor more, put more things together and take the time to make sure all the student-athletes are in the same room," Sheppard added.

The group's next event will be a campus-wide tailgate in collaboration with fraternities and sororities before the first home volleyball match on Sept. 26.

About NCAA SAAC

Student-athletes have a voice in the NCAA through advisory committees at the campus, conference, and national levels. These committees provide feedback on the student-athlete experience and offer input on NCAA rules, regulations, and policies.

The mission of the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committees is to enhance the student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive image.

At the campus level, SAACs work to:

  • Promote communication between athletics administration and student-athletes.

  • Provide feedback on athletics department issues.

  • Build a sense of community across all teams.

  • Organize community service efforts.

  • Serve as a representative voice on campus-wide committees.

Through these efforts, campus SAAC members play a vital role in shaping the student-athlete experience both locally and nationa
