MACON, Ga. – The Augusta University women's cross country team made program history Saturday morning, winning its first Peach Belt Conference Championship behind an individual title from Gabby Jourdain at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course.
Individual Champion: Gabrielle Jourdain, Augusta
PBC Freshman of the Year: Kaitlyn Lumbra, Augusta
PBC Coach of the Year: Jacob Burgamy, Augusta
The Jaguars totaled 40 points to edge defending champion Flagler by three points in the 11-team field. Georgia College finished third with 76 points at the championship hosted by Middle Georgia State University.
The historic victory came down to a strong finish. Augusta stood second in the team standings at the 4K checkpoint before moving into first over the final kilometer. Four Jaguars finished among the top 10, helping Augusta turn last year's runner-up finish into the program's first conference crown.
Jourdain, who was named the PBC Runner of the Year ahead of the championship, led the way with a winning 5K time of 17:59.6. The junior held the individual lead at both the 3K and 4K checkpoints before crossing first to pace the Jaguars.
Freshman Kaitlyn Lumbra finished fourth in 18:55.9, while sophomore Josabeth Graciano placed sixth in 19:04.9. Freshman Ella Gibbs gave Augusta its fourth top-10 finisher, crossing 10th in 19:13.4.
Freshman Reagan Paine completed Augusta's scoring five with a 21st-place finish in 19:32.1, contributing 19 points in the team scoring. The Jaguars' five scorers combined for a total time of 1:34:46.
Senior Danielle Thayer finished 23rd in 19:36.4, followed by sophomore Elkin Regina in 25th at 19:46.6 to round out Augusta's top seven.
Ansley Best placed 33rd in 20:22.8, while Amelia Ogden finished 43rd in 20:42.7 and Lily McDonald took 44th in 20:42.9. Maria Biondollilo crossed 50th in 21:02.2, followed by Brie Andrews in 58th at 21:34.1.
Adeline Althen finished 63rd in 21:48.3, Carlee Hodges placed 68th in 22:07.9, and Caleigh Munro finished 73rd in 22:33.3.
The women's victory completed an Augusta sweep of Saturday's Peach Belt team championships, with the men's squad claiming its 10th conference title earlier in the morning.
