Huge Second Half Sends Lincoln Memorial Past Georgia College

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 3 seed Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters knocked off No. 6 seed Georgia College by a score of 100-65 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday.

The Railsplitters improve to 26-4 on the year while the Bobcats conclude their year with a ledger of 21-8.

Mekell Burries led the way for the victors with 22 points while Jordan Walters added 20. Chase Rankin and Jordan Guest added 16 points and 14 points, respectively. Martez Brown snagged nine rebounds while Burries and Walters each pulled down eight rebounds. Rankin distributed eight assists.

The Bobcats were guided by 12 points from Jordan Thomas and Luke Chism. Brandon Thomas accounted for 11 points and Wesley Simpson contributed 10 points.

Leading 40-36 at the break, the Railsplitters torched the nets in the final 20 minutes, burying 21-of-37 from the floor (56.8 percent), including eight-of-17 from downtown (47.1 percent). LMU limited the opposition into 10-of-33 shooting from the floor during the same stretch (30.3 percent), including just three-of-14 from distance (21.4 percent).

For the game, LMU hit 35-of-63 from the floor, including a sizzling 13-of-24 from downtown (54.2 percent). The team was efficient at the charity stripe, canning 17-of-20 (85.0 percent).

The Railsplitters held a 46-27 edge on the glass, which helped turn into 21 second-chance points. The home team also managed to control the lane, outscoring the Bobcats 38-24.
