AUGUSTA, Ga. -- – Augusta State junior
guard Ben Madgen scored a season-high 26 points as the No. 4
Jaguars rolled to an 85-66 victory over Paine College Saturday
night in Carter Gymnasium.
With the victory, ASU improved to 3-0 on the season and extended
its winning streak in the series with the Lions to five straight.
The Jags have also won six of the last seven and eight of the last
11 vs. Paine.
Senior center Garret Siler booked 20 points, six rebounds and three
blocks in just 24 minutes of action. Junior forward Greg Hire had
eight points and a game-high eight rebounds. Madgen added five
rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Julian English knocked in 20 points off the bench for the Lions
(1-5), while Najee Tolbert chipped in 14 points and four
assists.
The Jags shot 61.2 percent (30-of-49) for the game, including 63
percent in the second half. They also outrebounded Paine 38-17. The
Lions remained within striking distance by canning nine 3-pointers,
four by English.
ASU breaks for finals before hosting Virginia Union on Saturday,
Dec. 13 at 4:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
