FLORENCE, S.C. --
Augusta State split a pair of matches Friday in day one of the
Swamp Fox Invitational on the campus of Francis Marion.
The Jaguars (6-9) fell 3-0 to Carson-Newman to open tourney play.
Senior Amy Hunt registered a double-double with 10 kills and 10
digs. Freshman setter Ashley Zappitell netted 19 assists and junior
libero Lindsey Weider logged 13 digs.
ASU bounced back with a 3-0 win over Fayetteville State in the
second match. Junior Jessica Howard racked up 19 kills and a .590
hitting percentage. Freshman Jessica Hanson tallied a team-best
.700 hitting percentage with seven kills while Zappitell booked 25
assists in just two sets.
ASU wraps up tourney play on Saturday when it takes on Franklin
Pierce and Montreat at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively.
