AUGUSTA, Ga. --
UNC Pembroke dealt Augusta State its fifth straight loss Wednesday
with a 68-61 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Lady Jaguars in
Christenberry Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Lady Braves improved to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in
conference play. The loss dropped ASU to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the
league.
Junior guard Eboni Davis paced the Lady Jags with a season-high 21
points and six rebounds. Junior Jasmine Godwin netted 18 points,
while senior Tracey Paschal added eight points and six rebounds.
Junior forward Porsha White tallied six rebounds.
Sophomore JaToya Kemp led for UNC Pembroke, posting a double-double
with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Senior forward Lavantay Johnson
added 14 points and six rebounds, while junior Marquena Delk had
eight points.
Augusta shot 76.9 percent from the free throw line and limited UNC
Pembroke to 40.4 shooting percentage, but only shot 40.4 percent
from the field and suffered 15 turnovers.
The Lady Braves won the rebounding edge 37-31 and shot 71.9 percent
from the free throw line, but connected on only 3-of-15 3-point
attempts.
The Lady Jags were without the services of two players. Junior
forward Nicole Mealing, the team's leading scorer, along with
junior reserve guard Brittany Hudson, served the second of their
two-game suspensions for a violation of team rules.
ASU hosts Armstrong Atlantic State on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 5:30
p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
