Pirates Halt ASU Streak, 3-0

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Armstrong Atlantic State jumped out to an early lead and blanked Augusta State, 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-17) in a key Peach Belt Conference matchup Tuesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The loss snapped ASU's six-match winning streak and dropped the Jaguars to 14-9 on the season and 5-5 in conference play. The Pirates improved to 15-7 overall and 6-2 in the PBC.

Senior Jessica Howard, the reigning PBC Player-of-the-Week, led ASU offensively with 10 kills while sophomore setter Ashley Zappitell posted 19 assists.

Marina Marinova and Michele Remlinger notched 12 and 11 kills, respectively, for the Pirates. Casey Howell managed 14 digs and Kristin Standhardinger racked up 37 assists.

AASU combined for a .300 hitting percentage, compared to just .054 from the Jags.

ASU returns to action this weekend when the Jags host a tri-match beginning at 1:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon in Christenberry Fieldhouse. ASU faces Anderson at 1:00 before the Trojans and Converse square off at 3:00. The Jags will then take on Converse at 5:00 p.m.
