AUGUSTA, Ga. -
Augusta State stepped out of Peach Belt Conference play Saturday
afternoon, notching a pair of 3-1 non-league victories over
Anderson and Converse in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Senior Jessica Howard again paced the Jaguars offensively. She
combined for 38 kills on the afternoon, including 22 against just
five errors in a 3-1 win over Converse. Sophomore setter Ashley
Zappitell racked up 48 assists against Anderson and 40 more vs. the
Valkyries.
Freshman Mandy Irizarry netted 10 kills against the Trojans, while
junior Chase Lowther tallied 13 digs and Lagi Roberts, Zappitell
and Lindsey Weider added 10 digs each.
With the pair of victories, ASU improved to 16-9 on the season and
reached the 16-win mark for just the second time since the 2000
season.
The Jags travel to UNC Pembroke for a Peach Belt Conference matchup
on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 7:00 p.m.
