AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State jumped out to a 41-21 halftime lead Saturday afternoon in Christenberry Fieldhouse and posted a 70-53 non-conference victory over Lenoir-Rhyne.

With the victory, the No. 6 Jaguars improved to 4-0 on the season. The win was the 15th straight at home for ASU, and the 12th straight regular-season home win for the Jags, who improved to 7-1 all-time against Lenoir-Rhyne.

Senior Ben Madgen tallied a season-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Senior point guard Daniel Dixon booked a season-best 14 points and six assists and four steals, while senior guard/forward Fred Brathwaite posted his third consecutive double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Madgen moved into third place on the both the Augusta State and Peach Belt Conference's career scoring list, passing ASU's own Keenan Mann and former Francis Marion standout Louis McCullough, respectively. With 1,737 career points, Madgen trails former Jaguar All-American AJ Bowman by 90 points for second place all-time on both lists.

"We played really well in the first half and they were kind of sloppy," said ASU head coach Dip Metress. "Then we kind of got sloppy in the second half. We've got an important few days of practice ahead of us with Paine coming up on Thursday. That's a big game for us, and they've improved from last year."

D.J. Blackmon netted a team-high 13 points and was the only player to reach double figures for the Bears, who dropped to 1-4 with the loss.

ASU shot 56 percent for the game, including 69 percent in the second half. The Jags, who never trailed, led by as many as 22 in the second half, and owned a 39-20 rebounding advantage over L-R.

ASU hosts Paine College in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
