AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State gained two on the first day of play in the Tusculum
Fall Classic on Friday in Greenville, Tenn. The Jaguars now 2-0 on
the season, won 3-1 in their season opener against Newberry, and
then defeated Tusculum 3-2.
In game one against Newberry, senior Jessica Howard paced the Jags
with 17 kills, two block solos and two service aces. Also aiding in
the win for the Jags was junior Dianna Meyer, who notched 11 kills
and booked two service aces. Sophomore setter Ashley Zappitell
tallied 40 assists, while senior libero Lindsey Weider had 24
digs.
In game two against Tusculum, Howard led the team with 24 kills and
three block solos. Zappitell netted 43 assists and three service
aces, while Meyer tallied 18 digs. Weider booked 16 digs, while
sophomore Jessica Hanson added 13 kills. Junior Chase Lowther had
three service aces.
The Jaguars wrap up the Tusculum Fall Classic Saturday afternoon
with a pair of matches, the first at 10:00 a.m. against Converse,
and the second against Mount Olive at noon.
