AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State improved to 4-0 on the season after wrapping up
tournament play in the Tusculum Fall Classic in Greenville, Tenn.
The tournament marked the Jaguars' debut under new head coach
Sharon Bonaventure.
In game one, the Jags defeated Converse 3-0 and then took down
Mount Olive 3-0 in game two.
In game one against Converse, senior Jessica Howard paced the Jags
with 13 kills. Junior Dianna Meyer notched eight kills and booked
11 digs. Sophomore setter Ashley Zappitell tallied 22 assists,
while sophomore Kristania Crawford added 13 assists. Senior libero
Lindsey Weider had 11 digs.
In game two, Howard led the team with nine kills and two blocks
against Mount Olive. Also aiding in the win was Zappitell, who
netted 31 assists and three service aces, while Weider tallied 14
digs. Meyer added 10 digs and sophomore Lagi Roberts had seven
kills. Junior Tarah Childress notched three service aces.
The Jags return to play next weekend when they travel to Aiken,
S.C., for the USC Aiken Invitational. ASU faces off against Catawba
on Friday, Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m., and then takes on St. Andrews and
Florida Tech on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
