GAFFNEY, S.C. --
Augusta State gained two on the first day of play in the Southeast
Crossover tournament on Friday in Gaffney, S.C. The Jaguars, now
7-2 on the season, defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 3-1 and then took down
Mount Olive, 3-1.
In game one against Lenoir-Rhyne, senior Jessica Howard paced the
Jags with 11 kills, no errors and one block solo. Also aiding in
the win for the Jags was junior Tarah Childress, who notched nine
kills and tallied five assists. Sophomore setter Ashley Zappitell
booked her first double-double of the season with 38 assists and 12
digs and had three service aces. Senior libero Lindsey Weider added
24 digs and four service aces.
In game two against Mount Olive, Howard led the team with 11 kills
and six total blocks. Zappitell netted 36 assists, while junior
Dianna Meyer tallied four service aces. Weider booked 24 digs and
Childress had 12 digs. Sophomore Jessica Hanson added 10 kills with
no errors, while junior Chase Lowther booked 11 digs.
The Jaguars wrap up the Southeast Crossover Tournament Saturday
with a pair of matches, the first at 11:00 a.m. against Limestone,
and the second against Tusculum at 1:00 p.m.
