GAFFNEY, S.C. --
Augusta State (7-4) dropped a pair of matches on Saturday in the
second day of the Southeast Crossover Tournament in Gaffney,
S.C.
The Jaguars fell 3-2 to Limestone and then were edged 3-2 by
Tusculum.
In the first match against Lenoir-Rhyne, sophomore setter Ashley
Zappitell posted a double-double with 49 assists and 18 digs.
Senior Jessica Howard booked 16 kills, while freshman Mandy
Irizarry added 13 kills. Senior libero Lindsey Weider booked 19
digs and four service aces and junior Chase Lowther had 20 digs.
Junior Tarah Childress tallied 14 digs.
In the second match vs. Tusculum, Howard led the team with 18
kills. Zappitell netted 44 assists, while Childress notched 19 digs
and five total blocks. Weider tallied 26 digs and four service aces
and Irizarry had 12 kills. Sophomore Jessica Hanson added seven
total blocks.
The Jags return to action Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host
Flagler in their home opener at 6:00 p.m. in Christenberry
Fieldhouse. The contest also marks the Peach Belt Conference opener
for ASU.
