AUGUSTA, Ga.
– UNC Pembroke dealt Augusta State its 12th straight loss of
the season on Wednesday with a 57-47 Peach Belt Conference victory
over the Lady Jaguars in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
With the win, UNC Pembroke improved to 9-8 on the season and 3-5 in
the conference, while the loss dropped the Lady Jags to 1-15
overall and 0-7 in the league.
Freshman Waneta Carlisle paced the Lady Jags with a team-high 16
points and seven rebounds. Junior Briyana Davis added 11 points and
snagged 11 rebounds, while senior Kirsten Stallings and freshman
Ashley Brown had six points each.
For UNC Pembroke, JaToya Kemp led the team with a game-high 18
points and nine rebounds. DeDe Cotten added 11 points, while
Chevoya Jackson netted eight points and tallied five rebounds.
The Lady Braves shot 45.5 percent from the field and forced 17 ASU
turnovers, but connected on only 7-of-17 3-point attempts (41.2
percent).
Augusta State connected on 11-of-14 free-throw attempts and forced
18 UNC Pembroke turnovers, The Lady Jags connected on only 2-of-20
3-point attempts (10.0 percent), and shot only 30.4 percent from
the field.
Augusta State is back in action on Monday, Jan. 25, when they
travel to Aiken, S.C to take on rival USC Aiken in a Peach Belt
Conference matchup at 5:30 p.m., in USCA Convocation Center.
