AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State shot 65 percent from the field and improved to 4-0 on the season with a 101-66 victory over Life Wednesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Jaguars' senior guard George Johnson connected on 9-of-10 field-goal attempts and registered 20 points and four steals in only 21 minutes. Sophomore guard Ben Purser booked 19 points, senior guard Caleb Brown tallied 16, senior forward Franck Ndongo netted 15 and junior guard Tye Beal had 11 points and five assists. Sophomore guard Kyle Armour matched Beal with five assists and senior forward Howard Brown added four steals.
ASU, ranked No. 20 in the first NABC Coaches Poll of the regular season on Tuesday, racked up its 33rd straight win at home and its 26th consecutive regular-season win in the CFH.
"We were a little sloppy in the second half, but we made some shots and any win is a good win," said ASU head coach Dip Metress. "I'm glad we had some of our Jagaholics here before the holiday break."
The Jags posted their highest point total at home since a 103-56 win over UNC Pembroke on Jan. 18, 2003, a span of 105 games in Christenberry.
James Hooper and Tony Reese paced the Running Eagles (5-4) with 12 points each.
ASU connected on 18-of-25 attempts in the first half and shot 72.0 percent en route to a 53-27 halftime lead. Ndongo canned a jumper at the 16:36 mark of the half that sparked a 25-6 run over the next seven minutes.
The Jags take on Paine College on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 8:00 p.m., in historic Carter Gymnasium.
