AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Senior guard Blaire Egardo scored a game-high 25 points to lead Augusta State to a 63-48 non-conference Clark-Atlanta at home Saturday afternoon.
The win was the third straight at home for the lady Jaguars, who improved to 5-2 overall. Clark-Atlanta slipped to 4-3 on the season. The 5-2 start by ASU is the first since the 2006-07 season.
Egardo, who grabbed a career-best eight rebounds, finished just two points shy off her career high. Freshman Jemimah Ashby booked a total of 12 points with two rebounds.  Senior Jarquella Woods, along with senior Briyana Evans, contributed eight rebounds each. Freshman Brooke McCants tallied eight points with four rebounds and Evans chipped in four steals.
Clark-Atlanta's Ariel Rouse turned in nine points and nine rebounds, while Ruthnye Jean-Phillipe grabbed 10 rebounds.
"In the first half, our ladies were real lethargic and they were the ones who had to snap out of it," said ASU head coach Nate Teymer. "I tried to light a fire, they made the corrections and I'm proud they rose to the challenge."
ASU took the lead with 3:24 left in the first half on a jumper by Egardo to put the Lady Jags in front for good at 24-23. ASU opened the second half on a 15-0 run and stretched the spurt to 23-2 run on an Egardo layup with 12:42 left in the game.
ASU shot 38 percent from the field, to only 28 percent from the Lady Panthers.  ASU forced 22 turnovers and outscored 22-5 off turnovers.
The Lady Jags will be on the road on Monday, Dec. 13, traveling to West Georgia for a 7:30 p.m., tipoff.
