AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Augusta State rallied for a 3-2 Peach Belt Conference victory over
Armstrong Atlantic State Saturday afternoon in Christenberry
Fieldhouse.
The Jaguars won the first set 26-24 before the Pirates countered
with two straight wins to take a 2-1 lead. ASU scored five straight
points in the fourth set to break a 20-all tie and force a fifth
and deciding set. On the third match point, sophomore outside
hitter Mandy Irizarry took a pass from freshman setter Lisa Bartsch
and put it down for the kill to give the Jags a 17-15 win in the
set and the match.
With the victory, ASU improved to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in the PBC.
The Pirates slipped to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Junior Lagi Roberts notched her sixth double-double (13 kills and
14 digs) while Irizarry posted her second double-double in a row
(13 kills and 10 digs). Freshman setter Lisa Bartsch booked her
fourth double-double (38 assists and 16 digs) and freshman libero
Andria Tagarelli tallied 23 digs.
Amanda Jones paced Pirates with a match-high 17 kills, Megan Pando
registered 41 assists and Jessica Santaniello turned in 24
kills.
The Jags continue their six-match homestand when they host rival
PBC-rival USC Aiken on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m., in
Christenberry Fieldhouse.
