VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State posted a 1-1 record Saturday during the second and final day of the Wingate by Wyndham Azalea Classic, hosted by Valdosta State at The Complex.
The Jaguars (2-2) blanked Fort Valley State (Ga.) 3-0 and fell 3-1 to Barry (Fla.)
ASU posted a .232 hitting percentage as a team in the opener vs. FVSU. Freshman Alex Rohlfing managed a team-high nine kills and fellow freshmen Paige Tuttle and Kristen Koch turned in eight kills each. Freshman setter Lauren Alverson posted 16 assists, while freshman libero Collete Richards (five), Koch and Rohlfing (three each), combined for 11 aces.
In the second match of the day, ASU jumped out to an early lead with a 25-20 victory in the first set before the Bucs rallied to win the next three. Junior Mandy Irizarry notched a team-high 11 kills and Rohlfing collected a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Richards pitched in a team-best 16 digs and junior setter Krystin Wahlig racked up 36 assists.
Senior outside hitter Lagi Roberts registered nine kills without an error and combined with Paige Tuttle on 10 block assists.
ASU travels to Due West, S.C., to take on Erskine on Wednesday, Sept. 7 in a 7:00 p.m., non-conference match at Belk Arena.
