AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State outlasted USC Aiken 26-24 in a tense first set and went on to register a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Pacers Wednesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The victory was the fifth in the last six matches for the Jaguars, who improved to 12-10 on the season and 3-5 in the PBC. The loss dropped USC Aiken to 15-9 overall and 4-4 in the league.
ASU junior Jenna Keeler tallied a team-high 11 kills against just one error. Paige Tuttle and Kristen Koch each notched six kills and Leslye Barnett and Mandy Irizarry netted five kills apiece. Senior setter Krystin Wahlig posted 33 assists, while Andria Tagarelli and Collette Richards paced the squad with 13 digs each. Irizarry added 12 kills and Wahlig chipped in 11.
The Jags booked a .184 hitting percentage compared to just .045 for the Pacers, who were led by Ashley Diedrich's seven kills.
ASU returns to action this weekend when it hosts the Jaguar Invitational on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20. Match times for both days are slated for 2:00, 4:30 and 7:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Jags face Clark-Atlanta Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., followed by Queens vs. Clark-Atlanta at 4:30. ASU takes on Queens at 7:00, to round out the first day of action. On Saturday, Francis Marion meets Erskine at 2:00 p.m., and Queens at 4:30 before ASU wraps up play vs. Erskine at 7:00.
ASU will be celebrating Parents Weekend along with Dig Pink 2012 on Saturday vs. Erskine.
