GREENWOOD, S.C. – Augusta State bounced back from Tuesday's tough home loss to Montevallo with a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference road win over Lander Friday night in Finis Horne Arena.
With the victory, the Jaguars swept the season series and won for the ninth time in their last 11 outings ASU improved to 16-11 overall and 4-6 in the PBC, while Lander slipped to 12-12 on the season and 4-4 in the league.
Sophomore Paige Tuttle started off the first two sets with a kill and the Jags never lost momentum. With Lander on service for set-point in the third game, ASU clawed back with two Kristen Koch kills and a block from Tuttle. After trailing by as many as five points in third set, the Jags scored the final three points in the set for a 26-24 victory and a sweep of the match.
The sophomores combined for 23 kills, with Koch leading the team at 15 and Tuttle adding eight. Jenna Keeler and Alex Rohlfing both booked 11 kills, while senior Krystin Wahlig racked up 47 assists.
Numerous Jags helped in the digs column. Andria Tagarelli led with 23, Mandy Irizarry gave 15, and Collette Richards had 10. ASU posted a .317 hitting percentage, compared to just .157 from the Bearcats.
The Jags travel to Anderson, S.C., to take on the Trojans on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7:00 p.m. ASU is back in action at home next weekend, hosting Flagler on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m., and Armstrong on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 2:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
