AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State defeated Flagler, 3-2 in a five-set battle Friday night for the first time in school history, handing the Saints their first Peach Belt Conference loss on the season. The setback was also just the fourth-ever for Flagler since entering the league in 2009.

With the win over the first-place Saints, ASU improved to 17-12 overall and 5-6 in the PBC, while Flagler dropped to 17-8 overall and 9-1 in the conference. With the victory, the Jaguars reached the 17-win mark for just the fifth time in program history dating back to 1985.

After dropping the first set 25-16, the Jaguars bounced back in the second set by posting a .190 attack percentage, over the Saints' .133 for the victory. ASU was down 24-19 in the third set and facing match point before battling back to tie it at 28-all. ASU won the next two points for a 30-28 victory off Kristen Koch and Paige Tuttle kills.

The fourth set was within four points the entire stretch, with Flagler overcoming an eight-point deficit and outlasting the Jags 26-24. With the match knotted at 2-2, ASU took the first three points of the deciding fifth set, forcing Flagler into a timeout. With the scored tied 12-12, the Jags ended it with kills from Jenna Keller and Koch, and a pair of blocks from Krystin Wahlig and Katie Beresford.

Senior Mandy Irizarry posted a season-high with 16 kills, while Koch provided 16 putdowns of her own and Keeler notched 15. Wahlig set up the attack with 56 assists and added 22 digs for her 12th double-double on the season.

Junior libero Andria Tagarelli led the Jags with a season-high 40 digs, while Irizarry notched 12 of her own, posting her third double-double of the year. Senior Meredith Berce (11) and Koch (six) combined for 17 digs.

The Jags are right back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Armstrong Atlantic State at 2:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
