AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State fell 3-0 to Francis Marion Tuesday night in a Peach Belt Conference match in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
ASU was on top 22-20 in the first set before allowing five straight points from FMU. The Jags posted nine errors on 16 kills and were out hit .140 to .270. Trailing for the majority of the second set, ASU tied it at 17-17 on a service ace from sophomore Maggie Darling. The Jags took the lead 23-22 on a Mandy Irizarry kill, but the Patriots countered. Despite being outhit in the second set .186 to .119, FMU scored the next three points to go up 2-0 in the match.
Tied 1-1 to start the third set, the Jags never took the lead as the Pats led by three or more for the remainder. ASU dropped the set and match 25-17.
Senior Krystin Wahlig's 37 assists on the night put over the 2,000 career assists mark. Sophomore Chelsea Foster posted a career-high 16 digs and Darling notched her career high with 11. Sophomore Kristen Koch led the way with 12 kills, while Jenna Keller added 11 and Irizarry 10.
The Patriots outhit ASU .266 to .208 and had three less errors than the Jags.
With the loss, the Jags slipped to 5-8 in the conference and 17-14 overall. FMU improved to 18-10 on the season and 6-7 in the PBC.
ASU closes out its regular season schedule and celebrates Senior Night on Friday, Nov. 9 vs. UNC Pembroke at 6:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
