Augusta Cruises to Two wins over Montevallo and Southern Arkansas

Livingston Alb. – The Augusta University volleyball team defeated both Montevallo and Southern Arkansas today non-conference contests.

The Jaguars improve to 9-2 on the season and close out the weekend at 3-0.

In the first match of the day, the Jaguars earned a 3-1 victory over the Falcons. The first set went to the Jags by a score of 25-16, but Montevallo battled back in the second with a score of 25-17 to tie the match a 1-1. Augusta would get the victory in the third set, winning it 25-17 only to have another fierce battle in the fourth. The Jags would get the better of the Falcons though, and close the match out with a 25-22 win.

Kylie Martin had another outstanding performance with her 14 kills and 12 digs earning her a second double-double in as many matches. Jessica Hedrick led the team in hitting percentage with a .375, nine kills, three errors, on 16 swings. She was also the top blocker for the Jaguars, putting up five block assists and one solo block for a total of six in the match. Kassie Till notched 38 assists in the contest, to go along with three aces.

Also coming in strong defensively for Augusta was the tandem of Julieanne Saliba and Holland Martin. Martin had a team high 14 digs, while martin earned 10 of her own.

Overall, the match was a close affair on paper, with the Jaguars amassing 45 kills to the Falcons' 42. The also narrowly out hit Montevallo .186 to .135.

In the second match, the Jags beat the Southern Arkansas 3-1. The first two sets were very competitive, with the Jags edging out a 25-23 win in the first only for Southern Arkansas to return the favor by winning set two 25-20. In sets three and four however, the Jags absolutely dominated with a victory of 25-11 in the third and an outstanding 25-7 in the fourth.

 Nicolette Ramos led the squad with 15 kills in the match while hitting .424. She also managed eight digs in the contest and threw two block assists. Till put up a staggering 43 assists in the match and managed nine digs, narrowly missing a second night of double-doubles.

Defensively, Martin was the top digger for the Jags, as she totaled 23 on the day while also earning five assists. Chloe Allen put up a team high five block assists while managing nine kills of her own.

Overall, Augusta out hit Southern Arkansas .290 to .085 while earning 54 kills to their 32.


The Jaguars return home for their next match when they take on Limestone, Tuesday, September 24th at 7:00 p.m.
