Box Score The Augusta University Women's Basketball team beat the UNC Pembroke Braves, 69-63, Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference tilt at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Jags improve to 9-15 overall and 6-10 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Braves fall to 10-14 on the season and 5-11 in the Peach Belt Conference.
The Jags got out to a strong start in the first quarter as they took a 15-6 lead over UNC Pembroke. Their stifling defense lead to five Braves turnovers in the quarter. UNC Pembroke outscored the Jags, 26-13 in the second quarter. The Braves held onto a narrow four point lead at halftime by a score of 32-28.
Kennedi Manning had 10 points on 2-for-6 shooting and went 6-for-8 from the charity stripe to lead the Jags in the half. Zairya West added 8 points of her own as she went 2-for-6 from the field. Both of West's field goals in the first half were from beyond the arc.
Stellar play from West led the Jags in the third quarter with 7 points in the period. The Jags outscored the Braves, 24-10 in the quarter, giving them a 52-42 lead. The Jags kept a double digit lead for most of the fourth quarter and pushed for the 69-63 victory.
West led the Jags for the night with 19 points. Freshman Kennedi Manning had another solid outing as she added 15 points on 4-for-9 shooting and 8 rebounds. Kierra Howard added 14 points and 4 rebounds.
The Jags shot 19-for-46 (41.3%) from the field, while the Braves shot 23-for-49 (46.9%) from the field. Augusta was 4-for-14 (28.6%) from three point range and 27-for-36 (75%) from the charity stripe.
The Jags travel to Dahlonega, GA to take on the University of North Georgia Nighthawks on Wednesday, February 19 at 5:30 p.m.
