Box Score ST AUGUSTINE, FL – The Augusta University volleyball team competed in its first match of the 2021 after having not played since December of 2019. The Jags dropped a 5 set heartbreaker to the Flagler Saints on the road for their first outing of the abbreviated season.
Flagler moves to 4-2, 2-0 in the Peach Belt while AU falls to 0-1.
The Saints won 25-17 to start the match before Augusta answered with 25-21 and 25-16 wins in the second and third sets. Flagler stormed back and won the fourth set 25-18, and took the match 15-13 in the fifth and deciding set.
Augusta's Kylie Martin recorded a double-double, registering 14 kills and 10 digs in the contest. Senior Madison Malloch gave AU 11 kills and 5 blocks Pre-Season All-Conference selection Chloe Allen also turned in double digit kills, adding 10 to go along with 9 digs and 3 blocks.
Libero Holland Martin led the defensive effort for the Jags with 18 digs and 3 assists. Samantha Zittrauer dished out 23 assists while Kassie Till had 17 assists during the afternoon.
Flagler was led by Rachel Machovec's 13 kills.
Augusta returns to play this Thursday against Francis Marion at 6:00 pm to continue the Peach Belt Conference Spring Schedule. All games can be viewed on the Peach Belt Sports Network.
