Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE – The Augusta University Jaguars won their 13th match in a row and its third consecutive conference tournament title with a 3-2 victory over Flagler on Saturday in the championship match. The Jaguars capture their third straight PBC tournament crown becoming the sixth team in PBC history to three-peat, tied for the most in the league. It was the first final to go to five sets since 2016 and only the sixth championship match to go the distance.
Match scores were 18-25, 25-20, 23-25, 27-25, 15-12. The match saw 31 ties and 18 lead changes.
Augusta was down 2-1 and faced a championship point against them in the fourth set when Flagler led 24-23. Augusta's Kylie Martin responded with four straight kills, leading the Jags to a 27-25 win and forcing a decisive fifth set.
The Saints opened the fifth set on a 5-2 run, but a kill by Nedu Evans and a pair of aces by Chloe Allen quickly knotted the score. A bad set by Flagler and block by Alyssa Frazier gave Augusta an 11-9 lead.
After kill by Lindsay Glynn closed Flagler's deficit to 11-10, Augusta answered with a kill by Julie Archer, got a point off a Flagler ball handling error, and an ace by Holland Martin set up match point.
The Saints fought off two match points to close to 14-12, but Martin ended the match with a kill, giving the Jaguars the title.
Martin took home Most Valuable Player honors with a match-high 27 kills and 18 digs. She hit .345 with only seven errors on 58 swings. Evans added 11 kills and hit .286 while Frazier added 10 kills and four total blocks. Samantha Zittrauer earned all-tournament honors with 29 assists and Martin joined her on the all-tourney team with a match-high 32 digs.
Rebekah Machovec recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 17 kills and 16 digs for the Saints. Joining her on the all-tournament team was Kennedy Muff who tallied a season-high 51 assists and finished her ninth double-double with 14 digs. Logan Garcia added 10 kills and five total blocks. She hit .360 with just one error on 25 swings. Jordan Taylor hit a blistering .667 with 10 kills on 15 errorless swings. Karolina Garstka collected 23 digs.
