Milledgeville, Ga- The Augusta University women's basketball team opened its 2022-23 season with a thrilling victory over Barton at the Conference Carolinas/PBC Crossover. The Jags held off the Bulldogs and move to 1-0.

Tomiyah Alford turned in an impressive 22 points off 9-from-12 shooting from the field.
Kennedi Manning turned in her first double-double of the season, leading the rebounding effort with 15 to go along with her 15 points for the game. Manning's rebound total more than doubled any other player in the game.
Augusta got off to a hot start, shooting 81.82 percent in the first ten minutes of regulation. The Jaguars started the second quarter up 23-18. A small scoring run by the Bulldogs gave them a 26-25 advantage with 7:03 left in the half. The game remained tight, with Augusta holding a narrow three-point lead heading to the locker rooms.
AU led by as many as seven in the third quarter and extended that lead to ten with 5:46 left to play in the fourth quarter. Six unanswered points by Barton brought the score to 59-56. The Warriors were able to bring the score to within one with just over a minute to play, but Augusta held fast and earned a 61-60 road victory.
