Augusta Softball Wraps 2022 Season with Two Victories

Milledgeville, Ga – The Augusta University softball team wrapped its 2022 season with a three-game series against the Georgia College Bobcats. After dropping a close game Friday, AU took two victories on Saturday.
 
Augusta closes the year with a 16-28 record, going 5-19 in Peach Belt Conference play.
 
Game 1
 
On Friday evening, the Jaguars narrowly lost a 4-5 contest in extra innings.
 
Jakayla Sullivan started her last game as a Jaguar with a bang, hitting a home run to center field in the third inning. A single from Bailee Roberts in the fourth inning forced the second AU run. Georgia College notched a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Augusta was able to tack on two more runs in the 6th inning.
 
Georgia College added a run in the sixth. A costly error in the 7th inning tied the game at 4-4 and forced an extra inning. The Bobcats were able to capitalize on their home field, scoring the deciding run off of double to center-field.
 
Bailee Roberts led, going 4-for-5 with 2 RBI.
 
Maggie McBrayer pitched a complete game, allowing 1 hits and 5 runs while striking out three batters.
 
Game 2
 
Augusta was able to card the narrow 4-3 victory in first game of the day on Saturday.
 
After scoring a run in the first, Jakayla Sullivan hit a 2 RBI homer in the third inning to bring the score to 3-2. A sacrifice fly by the home team knotted the score at 3, but a single from Madelyn Libby scored Grace Bridges and gave AU the 4-3 edge and road victory.
 
 
Jakayla Sullivan, Olivia Biles, and Grace Bridges all carded multiple hits.
 
Maggie McBrayer (7-14) tossed for the full 7 innings, only allowing 5 hits for 3 runs.
 
Game 3
 
Madelyn Libby was the Jaguar to hit a home run in the final game of series.
 
After scoring off the homer in the second inning, consistent offense pushed AU to the 8-5 victory.
 
A single from Paige Patterson put Emma Seagrave over home plate and tied the score at 2-2. A double from Olivia Biles and a sacrifice fly from Kali Garrett added to more runs. In the final inning, Emma Seagrave hit a 2 RBI. Madelyn Libby aired a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 8-3.
 
Georgia College tacked on 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it would prove not enough – giving AU an 8-5 win to round out the year.
 
Lauren Evens pitched all 7 innings and got the win for Augusta.
