AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team secured a victory over Emmanuel in straight sets in midweek non-conference action. With the win, the Jaguars avenged an opening weekend loss to the Lions and extended their win streak to 12. Augusta improves to 13-3 overall while Emmanuel falls to 9-7.
Augusta takes on Francis Marion on Friday night in the annual Pink Out match to support the Augusta University Cancer Center.
Senior Jazmyn Wheeler turned in her seventh double-double of the season, leading AU with 11 kills and 13 digs to go along with three aces and a block. Sophia Kruzcko tallied nine kills and no errors on 26 attempts. The North Carolina Native also had two blocks.
Kayli Cleaver, Madelyn Eden, and Abilgail Levines each totaled five kills. Cleaver achieved all five of her kills in the third and final set.
Senior setter Janvier Buggs dished 26 assists. Four Jaguars carded double-digit kills, using defense to hold Emmanuel to a .109 hitting percentage. Buggs had 13 digs, Wheeler had 13 digs, Dariana Luna had 14 digs, and Rylie Harris had 10 digs. For the defense at the net, Jada Suguturaga led the match with four total blocks.
The Jaguars dominated the match from the start, utilizing a pair of five-point runs to establish a 24-14. After a kill from the Lions, Levines closed the set with an assist from Buggs.
The second set began similarly, with AU jumping out to a 4-1 lead. A huge 8-0 run gave Augusta a 17-8 advantage. Emmanuel responded with a 4-0 run of their own at the end of the set, but AU clinched 25-18.The visiting team kept the third set within a few points, but Augusta never relinquished the lead and went on to win 25-19.Augusta returns to action on Friday, Oct. 6 for the annual Pink Out match. AU takes on Francis Marion at 6:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink. Live stats and video will be available at augustajags.com.
