Men's Basketball Opens Season with Win Over Mount Olive

WILSON, NC - The No. 10 Augusta University men's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with a 96-86 win over Mount Olive at the 45-Second Classic in Wilson, South Carolina. The Jaguars take on host Barton on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1 pm.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Jaguars were ranked No. 10 in the nation in the NABC preseason poll and picked to finish third in the Peach Belt Conference Preseason Poll.
  • Max Amadasun led AU in the first half, going 5-for-8 from the field and posting 14 points.
  • A three-pointer from freshman Zyere Edwards sparked an 8-0 Jaguar run that put Augusta up 11-5 with 16:33 left in the first half.
  • Mount Olive answered with a 9-2 to take their first lead of the game.
  • The Trojan held a six-point advantage with five minutes left in the first half, but AU worked themselves back in and another triple from Demitri Gardner gave Augusta a 48-45 advantage. The Jags went to the locker room at halftime with a three-point lead.
  • The Jags led for the entire second half. A layup from Gardner extended the lead to 86-76.
  • Amadasun, Gardner, and Ja'Queze Kirby each had over 20 points
  • Amadasun scored 26 points. He was 9-for-14 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. He also led with 11 rebounds.
  • Gardner was 8-for-11 from the field for 25 points. Kirby added 21 points and 10 rebounds.
