AUGUSTA, Ga – The Augusta University women's basketball lost 63-56 contest to the visiting Clayton State Lakers in its last regular-season game. Augusta is now 17-11, 10-8 PBC. Clayton State improves to 17-10, 16-6 PBC. Seniors

Augusta struggled from the field, shooting one if its lowest percentages of the season. Turnovers plagued both teams in the contest, but Augusta capitalized off offensive rebounds, scoring 22 second chance points.
Clayton State held a 12-7 lead after the first quarter. A jumper from
Kiera Howard cut the lead to 12-9 to open the second quarter. Howard would again drive and score for Augusta to cut Clayton State's lead to 20-16 with 4:54 left in the first half. Steady offense would cut the Laker lead to 26-24 at halftime.
The third quarter remained close until Clayton opened a six point lead with a minute left in the third quarter. A three-pointer by
Autumn Phillips with 47 seconds left made it a one possession game.
Phillips drained another three pointer to give Augusta a 34-33 lead over Clayton State with 5:10 remaining. Clayton would regain the lead in the final four minutes and take the 63-56 victory.
Senior
Kennedi Manning led with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Kiera Howard turned in 11 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 6 rebounds.
Tomiyah Alford tallied 10 points and 7 rebounds.
Autumn Phillips led the rebounding effort with 9.
Clayton State was led in scoring by Laylah Davis' 21 points.
Augusta will travel to Georgia Southwestern for the 2023 Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Tournament starting Wednesday March 1. After earning the #5 seed, Augusta will take on #4 North Georgia at 7:30pm.
