Augusta Leads PBC Commissioner's Cup Standings After Fall Season

AUGUSTA, GA -- After a tremendously successful fall season, Augusta University is atop the Peach Belt Conference Commissioner's Cup standings. The Jaguars captured 23 of a possible 25 available points for a .920 rating, putting them ahead of second-place Flagler (.881) and third-place Columbus State (.828).

The PBC Commissioner's Cup is presented annually to the best overall athletic department based on regular-season final standings (with exceptions for golf, track and cross country which are based on PBC Tournament results). The award is presented in late May during the PBC annual meetings.

"We're extremely proud of the seasons both cross country and volleyball had this fall," said Director of Athletics Ryan Erlacher. "They continue to set a higher standard of excellence within the department. Although it was their success that placed us atop the Commissioner's Cup standings, it was the true team effort from everyone in the department that made this happen. We take great pride in representing Augusta University and our goal is to keep our lead after both the winter and spring seasons and bring the Cup back to Augusta in June."

Augusta won PBC championships in men's cross country and volleyball and were third in women's cross country. Men's cross country won its fourth consecutive PBC Championship (the fifth in the last six years) with a perfect score. Kai Brickey repeated as PBC Individual Champion. Patrick Motes was named Runner of the Year and Jacob Burgamy was named Coach of the Year.  Seven Augusta runners were named All-Conference. AU finished second at the NCAA Southeast regional and qualified for the NCAA Championships in Seattle.

Augusta Women's Volleyball collected their eighth 20-win season and claimed the PBC Tournament Regular Season title for the first time in school history. The Jaguars advanced to the NCAA tournament for the fifth time in the last eight years.  Jazmyn Wheeler was named PBC Player of the Year as well as being named an AVCA All-American. Wheeler and Alexis Diaz-Infante garnered All-Region honors and three Jaguars were named PBC All-Conference.

Teams are ranked according to how many points they earn divided by how many are available to them, depending on which sports they sponsor. The number of available points in each sport is based on the number of teams participating in that sport. Associate members are not counted in the calculations.
